Disappearing code when switching to Source Editor
A few days ago I was working on a page for a site that uses Lasso, Blueworld's famous Web Database engine. To get the Lasso engine to pre-process your HTML, you simply have to change the file's extension to .lasso. I worked on my file and "Saved As..." index.lasso, on my desktop. After working on it for a few more minutes, I switched to Source mode to check some code. SURPRISE! There was no code. Switched back to Layout mode, and NO LAYOUT EITHER!
It was then I remembered all the horror stories I'd heard on the GoLive Talk List about this problem. I'd never had it happen to me before, but as they say, there's always a first time for everything.
So I closed my file [without saving, of course, I'm not that stupid] and decided to find out what was going on...the logical explanation to me was that GoLive having trouble interpreting my .lasso file because of the unfamiliar filename extension.
I opened up my Preferences and looked at my File Mappings...sure enough, no .lasso!!! So I added my own. On my first try, I set the Mime type to be text/lasso. I found GoLive would open the file as source, assuming it was some sort of foreign code, like JavaScript. So I changed the settings to what is shown below:

My .lasso files now open perfectly. GoLive interprets them as HTML files and allows me to edit them to my heart's content!
If you are having a similar problem with vanishing code, try out some of the solutions that Matt Ridley from Adobe suggests on the GoLive Talk List:

Yep. The full story is like this. The data loss (blank pages) issue will occur
when any of the following are true:
- You have the 'use internet config' option enabled (in the GL Preferences).
- You saved a file with no extension (no ".html" or whatever).
- You saved a file with an extension which isn't listed in GL's File Mappings
Preferences.
- You saved a file with an extension which *is* listed in GL's File Mappings
Preferences, but is *not* set to "text/html" (in those same preferences).
So, to avoid the data loss thing, do both of the following:
- Disable the 'use internet config' option in the GL Prefs.
- Always save your files with an extension which is both listed in the GL File
Mapping Prefs and set to be "text/html" in those same prefs.
Then you'll live happily ever after. ;-)
