GoLive Troubleshooting
Illegal PORT

"Illegal PORT command" messages while FTPing site?

GoLive 3.x has a problem communicating with an FTP server when it is unexpectedly disconnected [either by the FTP server, for idle time, or by a drop in your Internet connection]. Since it still thinks it is connected, the next time you try to "connect" it will send the FTP server an illegal command [this happens when Changing Directory... appears in the FTP status bar]. I have been able to circumvent this by quitting and restarting GoLive.

GoLive 4.0 throws up a different error message, something about assigning addresses. When this happens, it won't show the files on the server but will remain connected. Simply click the FTP Server Disconnect Button on the Toolbar, and then click it again to re-connect. Things should work fine now. I have been disconnected by several FTP servers for idle time or dropped connections and have been able to reconnect without restarting GoLive.
