Making a slide show in GoLive

Gone are the days when you had to create a separate page for every image and set a refresh to keep the slideshow moving. GoLive provides users with a simple Action that switches the images at times intervals while remaining on the same page.

In order to use this Action, you must first drag the Actions Plus 1.0 > Actions Plus 1.0 folder from the Adobe GoLive CD (yes, there are two of them, drag the inner one)...

and drop it into the Adobe GoLive > Modules > JScripts > Actions folder.

Once you've added these new Actions, restart GoLive (if you had it running) so that it will acknowledge them.

To make a new slideshow, name the first image you want to appear "01.xxx" (where .xxx is either .gif or .jpg) and drag and drop it onto the page.

In the Spec. Tab of the Image Inspector, name your image.

Now drag and drop an Action Headitem from the CyberObjects Tab of the Palette into the head of your page.

In the Action Inspector, from the Action pop-up menu choose Action > Actions Plus 1.0 > SlideShow Auto.

As noted in the Image Inspector above, there are several settings you can use. From the Base Image pop-up, pick the name of the base image for your slide show. Enter the number of images in your slideshow in the # of images field. Enter the number of seconds in between images in the Interval (in secs.) field. If you want your slide show to loop, leave Stop at end of slideshow unchecked. Also remember that all your images must be names in sequence (01, 02, 03) and that you can't mix jpgs and gifs in these slideshows.

Once you've saved the images in the proper format and have added this action to the base image, your slideshow should be ready. Make sure that the images have the same pixel dimensions (do this, or your images will be stretched).

This Action will work in version 4 browsers and Netscape 3. That's all folks! Go build yourself some slide shows!
