GoLive Tutorial
Preload

Preloading an image

One of the nicest features of CyberStudio and GoLive is the ease in the making of rollover graphics. Using these features, under the CyberObjects tab or the basic image button [adding actions to the image], can also cause some added frustration. One problem that occurs, mainly with slow web connections [56K modems or slower - which still is the majority of the internet market], is that rollover images seem to take a long time to work or they work but the rollover image does not appear.

The reason why the rollovers take time to work is that the images are loaded to the viewer's computer when the viewer mouses over the image. To eliminate this problem, or at least reduce the delay, you can preload the rolled-over image [or any other image].

To preload the image using the point and shoot feature in CS/GoLive, click on the arrow at the top of your page, while in Layout Mode.

Opening the Head Section

Next, click on the CyberObjects tab in your palette window and drag the Action HeadItem icon to your page header [that you just opened on the Layout page window].

Drag this:

To here:

To the page head

Now, the Inspector has changed to the Action Inspector. Click on the Actions popup menu, drag down to Image > Preload Image.

Choosing the preload image action

The Action Inspector will now allow you to point and shoot to the rolled over image. The image will now preload to the viewer's computer, so that when he/she mouses over the first image, the second or rollover image should appear almost instantaneously.
