Site Import

Importing a site into GoLive

This is a common problem for new users of Cyberstudio/GoLive. Adding a site to Cyberstudio/GoLive incorrectly will cause for bad links, broken images, and mild headaches. To avoid the above, follow these simple instructions when adding a new site to Cyberstudio/GoLive.

Adding a site from FTP

You can add a site to Cyberstudio/GoLive no matter what format the site was previously written in, [i.e. Front Page, Dreamweaver, Fusion, etc.]. First, you can set your preferences for Network > FTP downloads or you can enter your FTP when your prompt window appears, either way, make sure you know the correct location and password to download from your server. The method we will discuss here is importing the site without entering in your preferences.

Open Cyberstudio/GoLive. [If a page appears when you open Cyberstudio/GoLive, just close that page, by either clicking on the upper left hand close box, or drag down on File > Close.] Now you should have a blank or empty desktop, perhaps with the Palette, Inspector, and Color Palette Windows open. Drag down on File > New Site > Import Site From FTP as shown in this graphic:

 Choose Import Site from FTP

Once this has been done, a prompt box will appear. In the box, enter your FTP Server Address, Directory [if applicable], and your User Name, then check the box marked Passive [this works in almost every case]. Now, DO NOT ENTER YOUR PASSWORD, yet. First, click on Browse to locate the home page of your site. At this point a new box will appear asking you for your Password, enter your Password and click on Save Password. [Trust me it works better this way]. Cyberstudio/GoLive should now connect to your server and find your files and folders.

A new box will appear with all your files that are on the server, locate your home page and select it [if you are using MAC OS 8.5.1 you should have a Choose button]. Next, you will be prompted by Cyberstudio/GoLive to locate a folder on your computer where you want the file to be stored. Either Choose a folder that is on your computer or Create a New Folder. Please review the next few graphics for detailed assistance. [My graphics may be slightly different from yours, I am using Mac OS 8.1, "wah", PPC 6500, 250 mhz, 96 megs RAM]

You should do this first, Your password prompt is here:

Next, you will select the Home Page For the Site:

Now select a folder for it to be imported to:

You now should have on your screen, the new imported site from the server. At this point you may double click on any page within your site and start working on it.

Adding a site from a file

To add a site from a folder, you select File > New Site > Import From Folder, there you will be prompted in the same fashion as for importing a site from FTP. In this case CyberStudio/GoLive will prompt you on where the folder and index page are on your hard drive, very similar to the FTP site import method.
