Exotic Extensions

Editing files with exotic extensions in GoLive

Follow the steps in this tutorial too edit ANY text-based files with exotic extensions in GoLive.

GoLive CyberStudio 3.x

Choose Edit > Preferences [or press Command-Y]. You will immediately see a little text box on the top right of the Preferences window, containing filename extensions. The default content is "html, htm" (no quotes).

Default content

These are the file extensions which will cause CyberStudio to interpret the content as HTML. Add the extra extensions you desire. The final content of the text box in this case would be "html, htm, shtml, phtml" (no quotes).

Modified content

You're DONE! Click OK at the bottom-right of the Preferences window, and you're ready to open those files.

Adobe GoLive 4.0

Choose Edit > Preferences [or press Command-Y]. Click on the arrow beside the General Item in the bar on the left. It will expand and give you several new options. Click on the File Mapping option.

Expand General Item

Now in the list to the right, scroll and check to see if the extension you want to open in GoLive already exists. If it exists, make sure the Open With column says Adobe GoLive. If the extension is assigned to another program, select the row and choose CyberStudio from the popup menu. The selected item should change to reflect your choice.

Change App or...

If the item does not exist on the list, then click the New button on the bottom right. Enter the extension you want to open in the first field, choose CyberStudio from the popup, enter the Mime type in the second field, and type in the kind in the fourth [use the other items as examples].

... Create New Entry

You're DONE! Click OK at the bottom-right of the Preferences window, and you're ready to open those files.
